Åsa Jungnelius

A exhibition in Stockholm and workshop in Kaliningrad 2008

Supported by Swedish Institute

Åsa Lockner and Anna Liven West have been engaged in cooperation with representatives of the Kaliningrad Amber museum for over three years. The relationship between the Swedish duo and the Museum originated from the exposition of ”extended – Swedish Contemporary Jewellery ” which they curated, and has been developed and strengthened through the course of the Amber project.

The Amber project would not have been possible without the support of Ministry of Culture of the Kaliningrad region, the Swedish Institute and Consulate General of Sweden in Kaliningrad, and of course the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

Te curators sum up the project: ” it is a privilege and gives us great pleasure to now show the results that confirm the strong bonds of cooperation and friendship that have developed between all the partners. During dynamic period that we have been working with our Kaliningrad colleagues, we have discovered a renewed interest among Scandinavian artists in our eastern neighbour Russia’s tradition of culture and craftsmanship. We feel that amber is on the verge of a renaissance in a number of craft field. This is only partly due to the material’s status as a precious material, it is also a result of amber’s complex history and inherent Russianness”

The amber project will be shown in to parts. The first, a descriptive exhibition that documents the process at Svensk Form 21/5 – 1/6 2008 and the second part ” Amber and what to do with it? ”, an exhibition of the resulting works of art, at Konsthantverkarna 7/6-29/6 2008.
